Every decade has a legacy for next generations and a reputation. Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, elegant vehicles, and the economic growth helped the 1950s to be cool. With The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and clearly a lot of drugs, the 1960s provided counter-cultural material.
Nevertheless, the 1970s? That decade still had the music, the sex, and the drugs; but, those came with awful hair, bell bottoms, odd colour combinations, large collars, unusual design sense. Not one of those was cool. Particularly men’s apparel, everything was hideous.
These old pictures of men’s fashion from the 1970s reveal quite awful and horrible designs.
Men’s clothes made of flashy spandex, hip-hugging bell-bottom pants, unmanaged chest hair, bright leisure suits, skimpy short shorts, and dubious underpants selection.

The shortest of shorts this decade were ones that resembled the guy neglected to wear a pair of pants.
Making clothes out of unusual—and occasionally uncomfortable—textures was another of the more bizarre trends of the 1970s. Who considered donning a jumpsuit composed of vinyl?
People were not reluctant to dress boldly and daringly. Most of them combined striking colours and patterns, a form that was tight up top and loose down the bottom, and unusual textures including satin, suede, and corduroy.

Among many others, bell-bottom and wide-leg slacks, platform shoes, vests, long collared shirts, tight tees, turtneck sweaters, and leisure suits were basic pieces for the decade.
Still another element of this decade’s fashion was colour. Even basic designs were created to look strong using vivid colours.
Almost every fashion group made use of the vivid colors—yellow, orange, blue, pink, red, purple, and green—which included Gents were able to both fit in and stick out by including vivid colours in their clothing.

You’ll be pleased that these trends went off as after seeing these images. Still, “What were they thinking?” begs a question with a clear response needed. Among these horrible decisions, even the designers themselves cannot defend.
Fortunately, several of the 1970s’ fashions became some of the most ugly and despised fashion fads of all time.
Although many modern designers have used ideas from the past to produce today’s designs, it would be somewhat odd to find present designers using anything from these ugly men’s fashion trends from the 1970s.
